World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

Components
Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into weapons, armor, and trinkets to provide an extra stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be obtained through making crafts, buying from vendors, trading with other players, or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot for them. The item must be at least upgraded to the blue level to allow a component to be applied. In contrast to other mods components can only be used once; they cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging ascended gear or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
An upgrade may have a prefix or suffix changing the name of the equipment with which it is applied (for examplethe 'Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players to make stronger versions of the equipment that require the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.
A boost upgrade can alter the defense or attack properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them from the cash shop, or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other gear.
Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a better-quality version of an item will be revealed during the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear even when they're not sure what will be improved after a reset.

Leveling
